Memory verse: “He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.” John 1:41 We have been studying prophecy. On the 2300 days. The first 483 years, was to reach to The Messiah in A.D. 27. We are going back and look at the prophecy of Messiah (Daniel 9:26) Did Messiah come on time? Who was the Messiah? What does all this text mean?
1. Who was The Messiah that was to come? “He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the _________, which is, being _________, the _________.” John 1:41 The name Messiah and the name Christ, both mean “The anointed one”. So the one to come that Daniel was talking about, was Christ.
2. “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.” Daniel 9:24 In the last part of this prophecy, it says, “To anoint The Most Holy”. With what was Jesus anointed? “How _______ _________ _________ of Nazareth with the ________ __________ and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” Acts 10:38
3. At what time was Jesus anointed with The Holy Ghost? “Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that _________ also being __________, and praying, the ___________ was opened, And the _______ __________ descended in a bodily shape like a ________ upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.” Luke 3:21, 22. Truly this time was fulfilled and Jesus came on time. He was baptized in the fall of A.D. 27 about thirty years of age (Luke 3:2). We can count on the prophecy being on time.
4. What did Jesus say, as He began His ministry? “Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The ________ is __________, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Mark 1:14, 15. God has a time plan for this world and He started His work on time.
5. What would happen, after the sixty-two week? “And after threescore and two weeks shall ________ be ______ _________, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.” Daniel 9:26 (First Part). This pointed to the Death of Christ. Which we know took place in 31 A.D. He was crucified in the spring of A.D. 31 At the time of The Passover.
6. What would He (Christ) Do for one week? “And he shall ___________ the _____________ with many for _________ ________: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Daniel 9:27. In verse 26 Messiah or Christ is spoken of as “The Prince”. He is The Prince of The Covenant. It was the Covenant He had made with the Jews in verse 24, where He had given them 70 weeks to change their ways and to give The Gospel. They now had one more week or 7 years. There is three parts to these seventy weeks in Daniel 9:24 – 27 “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”
A. “Seventy Weeks” or 49 years – 457 B.C to 408 B.C. for the rebuilding of Jerusalem.
B. “Three Score and Two Weeks” or 434 years – from 408 B.C. to A.D. 27 –The anointing of “The Messiah The Prince.”
C. “One Week” or 7 years – 27 A.D. to 34 A.D.. In the midst or middle of the last week, Jesus was to be crucified. In the middle of this prophetic week, Christ was crucified. Christs’ Death was in “The Middle of the Week”, only 3 ½ years now remained. Christs’ Baptism in A.D. 27 ended the 483 years and began that last week of seven years. Jesus’ Death confirming with His own Blood, The New Covenant of Salvation by Grace through Faith in Him (Hebrews 8:10). His Death fulfilled all the Old Testament Sacrifices, which pointed forward to where Type met Antitype.
7. “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall ________ the _________ and the __________ to __________, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Daniel 9:27 There was no longer need for sacrifice after Christs’ Death. The Sacrificial Lamb was The Type, Christ The Lamb at His Death was the Antitype.
8. What happened at the time of His Death to show that sacrifice should come to an end? “Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the _________ of the _________ was _________ in __________ from the _______ to the __________; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;” Matthew 27: 50, 51. The Holy Place was now open for all to see in, the Priest were no longer needed. Man could go on his knees to God, with no man between. We now have a High Pries, Christ Jesus, which all can come to, for the forgiveness of sins.
9. Now there were 3 ½ more years left before the 70 weeks or 490 years would end. What was this 3 ½ years for? Now the disciples began to preach The Gospel; not only to the Jews but to the rest of the world. In Romans 9 – 11 makes it clear that Israel lost their special position as God’s people because of their rejection of Christ. As a nation, they did not accept Christ as The Messiah. As individuals, Jew or Gentile, we can now receive the blessings, promised originally to Israel. We can become a part of Israel today by accepting Christ. “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and ___________ according to the ___________.” Galatians 3:29
10. What happened at the end of the “One Week” or 7 years? At the end of the last 3 ½ years, Stephen was stoned in 34 A.D. You can read about this in Acts 7:58 – 60. This closed the 70 weeks or 49 years (490 Years). This part of prophecy was cut off from the 2300 day prophecy. This was the probationary time for The Jews. Where did Jesus tell his disciples to take The Message of Salvation, after 34 A.D.? “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the _____________ ________ of the ____________.” Acts 1:8 “And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man’s feet, whose name was Saul. And they stoned _____________, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep. And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.” Acts 7:58 – 8:4.
538 A.D. to 1798 A.D which is called “The Dark Ages” where the followers of Christ were put to death. When did the 2300 year period end? Deducting the 490 years from 2300 years we find that 1810 years were left. Adding 1810 to 34 A.D. Brings us to 1844.
810 Years + 490 Years = 2300 Years
This was set as the year for the Heavenly Sanctuary Cleansing to begin.
11.1844 A.D. brings us to the time when the sanctuary was to be cleansed. “And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the ___________ be __________.” Daniel 8:14 .In all parts of the world men arose preaching Christ; The Message preached was Revelation 14:6, 7. Some looked for Christ to return, but later it was realized that Christ had entered The Most Holy Place in the Heavenly sanctuary instead of coming to this earth s they had thought. We have already studied about the sanctuary on earth. Next Lesson we will see what goes on in The Heavenly Sanctuary.
"And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot." Not in self-confidence, not in self-exaltation, are we to pass the time of our sojourning, but in fear working with Christ for the salvation of others. We are to live as on holy ground, and when the Master shall appear in glory, we can say, "This is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us." Review and Herald, August 18, 1891
